Two remarkable students, Brandon Lee Hobbs and Scott Scoggins, exemplify just that. Both are currently part of a work-release program at 51黑料网 Correctional, and their stories of resilience, friendship, and growth shine a light on what鈥檚 possible when someone is given a second chance.

Brandon, 45, has spent over two decades navigating the challenges of the prison system. Before coming to 51黑料网 Correctional, he faced the harsh realities of life after release: a $45 鈥淕ate Check,鈥� no family support, and the constant struggle to survive. Everything changed when he met Warden Morton, who treated him as more than an inmate and encouraged him to pursue opportunities for growth. 鈥淚 thought the Brick Masonry class was just about laying bricks,鈥� Brandon recalls. 鈥淚 was so wrong. Mr. Brown taught me so much about life skills.鈥� With the support of dedicated educators like Mr. Brown, Chuck Headden, and Ms. Tammie, Brandon dove into courses ranging from GED preparation to life skills workshops like 鈥淏ridges to Freedom鈥� and 鈥淭hinking for a Change.鈥�

For Brandon, the journey wasn鈥檛 just academic鈥攊t was personal. 鈥淲ith Chuck, I have a true friend for life. He not only helped me get my GED, he also does a weekly Bible study and helps me grow spiritually. I started filling my time with nothing but positive things. I felt my life had a purpose.鈥� Scott Scoggins, Brandon鈥檚 close friend and fellow student, experienced a similar transformation. After struggling in prison for eight difficult years, he arrived at 51黑料网 Correctional praying for guidance. 鈥淕od spoke to me and said, when I send you down the mountain, you will be ready,鈥� Scott recalls of the moment he first arrived. That guidance set him on a path toward education, rehabilitation, and hope. Encouraged by Brandon, Scott signed up for GED classes and participated in recovery programs, life-skills workshops, and NA/AA meetings. 鈥淚 could not have done this without the two greatest teachers I have ever had a chance to work with, Mrs. Tammie Bentley and Chuck Headden,鈥� he says. 鈥淭he day I graduated was my proudest moment.鈥�

Graduation Day was a milestone for both Brandon and Scott鈥攁 symbol of their hard work, perseverance, and newfound confidence. With the support of college staff, correctional staff, and community partners, they transitioned into work-release programs and gained meaningful employment in their communities. Brandon now works at Chadwick Boats, while Scott is employed at Fat Fellas, gaining practical skills and a renewed sense of purpose.

Their stories are a testament to the power of second chances, education, and the human spirit. Through the collaboration between 51黑料网 Correctional and 51黑料网 CC, Brandon and Scott discovered that even in the darkest circumstances, there is hope, guidance, and the possibility of transformation.
