Program Overview

Earn college credit in high school for FREE!

51ºÚÁÏÍø CC’s Career & College Promise (CCP) program offers eligible high school students the opportunity to earn credits toward a college degree or a credential for employment – tuition-free. In many cases, students earn dual credit, meeting high school graduation requirements with college courses.

CCP offers students the opportunity to explore more than 30 academic programs, saving them and their families money on college tuition while also lightening their future course load in college. Students get a feel of the “college experience,†and they can boost their admissions profile by demonstrating they are ready for the rigors of college-level classes.

For students not interested in pursuing a college degree, CCP provides a jump-start to career plans, job training, skills, and certifications.

College Transfer Pathway (CTP) Eligibility

High school students interested in the College Transfer Pathway must meet the eligibility requirements outlined below.

Grades 9th & 10th

OPTION 1:

  • Be identified as gifted by local AIG plan in English/reading and math; and
  • Demonstrate college readiness in English/reading and mathematics on an approved assessment (See Attachment A in the Career and College Promise Manual under Important Documents above.); and
  • Receive recommendation verifying the student has maturity to enroll from high school principal or equivalent administrator and recommendation of AIG Coordinator (if one is employed by the district); and
  • Receive approval of college president or the college’s chief student development administrator or the college’s chief academic officer; and
  • Receive written consent of the student’s parent/guardian; and
  • Receive academic advising prior to enrollment in the program.

OR

OPTION 2:

  • Be identified as academically or intellectually gifted in English, reading and math on an aptitude and achievement test as evidenced by a score in the range between the 92nd percentile and the 99th percentile on an aptitude and an achievement test included in the Mental Measurements Yearbook published by the Buros Institute of Mental Measurements; and
  • Demonstrate college readiness in English, reading and mathematics on an approved assessment (See Attachment A in the Career and College Promise Manual under Important Documents above.); and
  • Receive recommendation verifying the student has maturity to enroll from high school principal or equivalent administrator and recommendation of AIG Coordinator (if one is employed by the district); and
  • Receive approval of college president or the college’s chief student development administrator or the college’s chief academic officer; and
  • Receive written consent of the student’s parent/guardian; and
  • Receive academic advising prior to enrollment in the program.

Grades 11th & 12th

1. Have an unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.8 on high school courses. (Students who do not meet the unweighted 2.8 GPA may still be eligible for Career & Technical Education Pathways)

OR

2. Demonstrate college readiness in English, reading and mathematics on an approved assessment (see Attachment A in the Career & College Promise Manual).

Career & Technical Education (CTE) Eligibility

High school students interested in the Career & Technical Education (CTE) CCP Pathway must meet the eligibility requirements outlined below.

Grades 9th & 10th

OPTION 1:

  • Have the recommendation of the high school principal or his/her designee and have the recommendation of the college’s Chief Academic Officer or Chief Student Development Administrator; and
  • Pass Math I with a grade of C or better; and
  • Score a 3, 4, or 5 on the End of Course assessment (EOC) for Math I; and
  • Score a 3, 4, or 5 on the 8th grade End of Grade ELA assessment.

OR

OPTION 2:

  • Have the recommendation of the high school principal or his/her designee and recommendation of the college’s Chief Academic Officer or Chief Student Development Administrator; and
  • Demonstrate college readiness in English, reading, and mathematics on an assessment (See Attachment A in the Career & College Promise Manual)

Grades 11th & 12th

1. Have an unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.8 on high school course.

OR

2. Demonstrate college readiness in English, reading and mathematics on an approved assessment (see Attachment A in the Career & College Promise Manual).

OR

3. Have the recommendation of the high school principal or their designee and their rationale for recommendation in place of GPA requirement (assessment scores should be considered) and have the recommendation of the college’s Chief Academic Officer or Chief Student Development Administrator.

The College Transfer Pathway lets you complete college-level classes (tuition free!) while you’re in high school that will transfer seamlessly to any school within the University of North Carolina System or participating private college or university.

The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Pathway offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credits (tuition-free!) at 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC toward a certificate or diploma in a technical career.

CTE is a great option for students who know the industry they want to pursue after high school and want to work toward the completion of a certificate, diploma, or state or industry-recognized workforce credential.

All coursework completed in a CTE Pathway counts towards an Associate in Applied Science degree at 51ºÚÁÏÍø.

Step 1: Explore Pathways

Step 2: Complete CCP Application

Once you choose your pathway, the next step is to complete the Career & College Promise application.

The application helps us learn more about you and make sure you are placed in the right program. Be sure to fill out all sections and check your information before submitting.

If you need help, your high school counselor or the 51ºÚÁÏÍø admissions team is here to guide you.


Please Note: Homeschool and private school students must send official high school transcripts and any required eligibility documents to [email protected]. Eligibility documents must be submitted each registration period for the upcoming semester.

Step 3: Login to College Accounts

After you apply, you will receive a welcome letter with your account details. Using your assigned 51ºÚÁÏÍø username, you will reset your password and set up two-factor authentication (2FA). Once this is complete, you will have access to all of your 51ºÚÁÏÍø student accounts.

  • – Your official 51ºÚÁÏÍø communication
  • – Where you access course materials
  • – Where you plan your courses and pay any balances for fees or books

Step 4: Register for Classes

Meet with a CCP Coordinator to complete your class registration process.

During your meeting, you will learn more about the Career & College Promise program and get help registering for classes. This is also a good time to ask questions and make sure you are ready for the next step.

Students should bring a pen or pencil, their Chromebook, and their cell phone to the appointment. You will also need to know the last four digits of your Social Security number to access your 51ºÚÁÏÍø accounts.

Step 5: Orientation, Books, & Payment

You’re almost ready to start! There is just one last step before you are officially a CCP student taking college classes and earning college credit at 51ºÚÁÏÍø.

Complete the online CCP Orientation to learn what to expect and how to be successful in your classes.


Books

Books can be purchased through the College Bookstore located in the Bryant Student Center.

Payment

CCP classes are tuition-free. However, students may be responsible for course fees. Charges for course fees and books can be paid online through 51ºÚÁÏÍø Compass.

In this pathway, you can earn tuition-free college credits at 51ºÚÁÏÍø while working toward a certificate, diploma, or state- or industry-recognized workforce credential in a technical career.

All coursework completed in a CTE Pathway also counts toward an Associate in Applied Science degree at 51ºÚÁÏÍø.
