Engineering Futures Begin at 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC

At 51ºÚÁÏÍø, we believe the path to becoming an engineer doesn’t have to start miles away it can start right here on the coast.

Our Associate in Engineering (AE) degree sets students up for success through hands-on learning, small class sizes, and guaranteed transfer pathways to top engineering programs, including NC State’s Havelock Engineering Program.

High school students can also get a head start through our Career & College Promise (CCP) program, allowing them to begin their engineering education early and with support.

Wondering if this pathway is successful? Just ask Samuel and Bethany, two students who turned their dreams into reality, starting right here at 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC.

Samuel Byrns Discovers a Love for Math and Physics

From 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC to NC State Havelock Engineering

When Samuel Byrns was in high school, he didn’t think engineering was in the cards. Math felt frustrating and abstract, and it was hard to see how it would ever apply in real life. Once he started classes at 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC, something clicked.

One math course taught in a more engaging, approachable way helped him build confidence and actually start enjoying the subject. That curiosity soon extended to physics, and before long, Samuel had declared an Associate in Engineering major.

He’s now on track to transfer to NC State Engineering Havelock to pursue his Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Samuel’s journey is a reminder that the right environment can change everything. With the support of passionate instructors and a clear path forward, he found both confidence and direction.

Bethany Lier’s Journey from 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC to Fleet Readiness Center East

Mechanical Engineering career began with local dual enrollment

Bethany Lier, 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC AE Graduate

Bethany Lier began her journey while still in high school, taking dual-enrollment classes at 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC as a student at Croatan High School. After graduation, she earned an Associate Degree in both Engineering and Science, building a powerful academic foundation before transferring to NC State University’s Havelock campus.

There, Bethany completed her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and today she’s an Engineer at Fleet Readiness Center East, supporting the H53 engine fleet. Her story reflects the strength of our local pathways and the power of early support and access.

51ºÚÁÏÍø CC is proud to celebrate Bethany’s success alongside Croatan High School and NC State Engineering, Havelock. Her path proves that with dedication and opportunity, local students can go far and do meaningful work nationally.

Start Here. Engineer Anywhere.

At 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC, we’re building more than academic programs we’re building futures.
