Highlights from the June 12, 2024 BOT Meeting

°¿²ÔÌýWednesday, June 12, 2024 the 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC Board of Trustees met for their monthly meeting. Copies of board agenda packets and meeting minutes are available .

• The Board took action on the following items:
  • Approved to cancel the July BOT meeting.
  • Approved a continuation budget until the General Assembly approves the 2024-2025 state budget
  • Approved the new Title IX policy effective August 1, 2024 (based on changes sent from the federal government)

• The Board presented a Slate of Officers for 2024-2025 that mirrors current Board officers.  A vote will take place at the annual meeting in August.

• The Board received a check presented by Mayor Will Lewis from Havelock, who also chairs the Allies for Cherry Point’s Tomorrow (ACT) fundraising committee, in the amount of $7,400 towards scholarships for veterans and their spouses/dependents who meet established criteria for workforce training and credentials.

• New employees introductions were made to the Board and included: Cathy Deal (new chair of Human Services), Louis Giambertone (new lead instructor for EMS), Toni Almond and Tyler Wible (new custodians).  Cindy Goodwin recognized Jeremy Thompson for being promoted to Assistant Director of Operations & Facilities, and Dr. Mancini recognized Scott Lane for being promoted to VP of Finance and Administrative Services.

• Amanda Bryant presented on Human Resources at 51ºÚÁÏÍø CC.

• Donna Cumbie was recognized for her service at the College, as this was her last BOT meeting before retirement.  Trustees were very complimentary of her work and her willingness to step up this past year.

• Trustees welcomed SGA President Jenny Maldonado-Castro as the student trustee for 2024-2025.

• Other updates included:
• • Marquita Hall was recognized as the new 2024-2025 SEC chair
  • Summer 2024 enrollments were stronger than they have been since at least 2018
  • Piping/HVAC improvements will begin soon in McGee
  • The Phase I Environmental Assessment will be conducted soon on the land in front of Wayne West to determine the site eligibility for the new Workforce Center for Construction and Transportation Trades
