51ºÚÁÏÍø proudly announces its 28th Annual Black History Celebration, happening on February 17th at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center. This annual event honors exceptional young African American students in 51ºÚÁÏÍø County at the 8th and 12th-grade levels, along with students at 51ºÚÁÏÍø, who have achieved outstanding academic excellence with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

This year’s program features keynote addresses from two distinguished 51ºÚÁÏÍø alumni, Jenmekia Gay and Shameka Frazier. Ms. Gay, a 2022 graduate of the College’s Welding Technology program, now serves as a full-time welding instructor at Coastal Community College. Ms. Frazier, a 2024 graduate of the College’s Nursing program, works at CarolinaEast Medical Center in Craven County. Their inspiring journeys motivate current and future students to pursue their educational and professional goals with determination and excellence.

The celebration also highlights the , established by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), the founders of Black History Month. This theme recognizes the significant contributions of African Americans to the workforce throughout history and emphasizes their enduring impact across various industries.
