The Associate Degree Nursing curriculum provides knowledge, skills, and strategies to integrate safety and quality into nursing care, to practice in a dynamic environment, and to meet individual needs which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential.

Course work includes and builds upon the domains of healthcare, nursing practice, and the holistic individual. Content emphasizes the nurse as a member of the interdisciplinary team providing safe, individualized care while employing evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites

  1. Transcripts: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and provide an official transcript. Send official transcripts from high school, GED and all colleges attended to the college Registrar. Home-schooled students must submit a copy of the home school鈥檚 approved registration from the state in which they are registered.
  2. College Ready: College ready is demonstrated by the following:
    • High School GPA > 2.8, or
    • College coursework in English and math (MAT 143 or MAT 003 grade of P2 or equivalent), or
    • Minimum Placement test scores (RISE test or equivalent)
      • English: Test out of TIER 1, and
      • Math: Test out of TIER 1 and TIER 2
  3. Biology, Chemistry, Algebra: Courses that must be completed:
    • Algebra - must complete one of the following:
      • High school Math I with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better (if more than one term is represented, no grade below C will be accepted),
      • MAT-143 or higher with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better,
      • MAT-002 with a grade of P 2,
      • RISE placement test place out of TIER 1 and TIER 2.
    • Biology - must complete one of the following:
      • One unit of high school general biology with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better, (if more than one term is represented, no grade below C will be accepted).
      • College-level general biology with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better (BIO 110 or BIO 111). Anatomy and Physiology does NOT meet this requirement.
    • Chemistry - must complete one of the following:
      • One unit of high school chemistry with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better, (if more than one term is represented, no grade below C will be accepted).
      • College-level Introduction to Chemistry and lab (CHM 130 or 131 plus lab) or (CHM 151 and CHM 152, required for East Carolina RIBN and aRIBN pathways, with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better).
  4. Grade Point Average 2.5 or above: Taking the general education courses in the nursing program helps with building points towards nursing admissions; however, a grade point average of 2.5 or better in those courses must be earned. Additionally, an earned grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better is required. A student who earns a grade of less than 鈥淐鈥 in a general education course must retake the course and earn a minimum grade of 鈥淐鈥 prior to or during the semester in which it is included in the program of study.
  5. General Education course work includes:

    • ENG-111: Writing & Inquiry
    • ENG-112: Writing/Research in the Discipline (may substitute ENG-114)
    • Professional Research & Reporting
    • PSY-150: General Psychology
    • PSY-241: Developmental Psychology
    • BIO-168: Anatomy and Physiology I
    • BIO-169: Anatomy and Physiology II

    Note:BIO 168 & 169 must be taken within five (5) years of the expected date the student will enter the nursing program

    Humanities Elective (3-hour credit): the preferred courses are either HUM-115: Critical

    Thinking or PHI-240: Introduction to Ethics.

    Acceptable alternative Humanities electives are:

    • ART-111: Art Appreciation
    • ART-114: Art History Survey I
    • ART-115: Art History Survey II
    • MUS-110: Music Appreciation
    • MUS-112: Introduction to Jazz
    • PHI-215: Philosophical Issues
  6. CPR: Current certification in adult and child CPR from the American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider Course). Upload a current copy of applicant鈥檚 CPR card with their Selective Health Sciences Application.
  7. CPR certification is required to enroll in the first term nursing NUR 111 course and will be validated by the nursing faculty. Please maintain continuous CPR certification throughout the nursing program to remain eligible to continue. Provide updated copies of CPR certification to the Chairperson of the Nursing program as needed.

  8. CNA (Nursing Assistant I) Certification:
  9. Successful completion of a State-approved Nurse Aide I (NA-I) training course with a minimum of 48 documented clinical training hours caring for patients under the supervision of the RN Instructor and a current listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry with no substantiated findings is required. To satisfy this requirement, applicants can:

    Upload applicant鈥檚 registry listing with their Selective Health Sciences Application. To print this listing, if you are a CNA I, go to the N.C. Nurse Aide I Registry

    OR

    Upload documentation of State-approved CNA1 and CNA2 courses and a current NC license as a CNA2. Upload verification of active NA2 license from the North Carolina Board of Nursing website.

    Note: A current unrestricted license as a practical nurse waives the nursing assistant requirement. Submit this license with applicant鈥檚 Selective Health Sciences Application in lieu of the Nurse Aide 1 registry listing.

  10. CNA (Nursing Assistant I) 48 Clinical Hours:
  11. If you did not receive your CNA certificate from 51黑料网, you must provide one of the following:

    Documentation of Course completion from a State-approved NA1 program that included 48 clinical contact hours with patients as part of the training. The documentation must be on the training facility鈥檚 letterhead and signed by the RN Course Coordinator or RN instructor.

    OR

    Documentation of Course completion, and if the clinical contact hours were less than 48, the applicant must provide one of the following:

    • Documentation of employment as a CNA1 providing direct patient care activities for a minimum total of 48 clinical hours. The documentation must be on facility letterhead and signed by the Staff Development RN or Director of Nursing.
    • If the applicant has completed a CNA2 course, provide documentation of course completion and the number of clinical contact hours included in the course. The combination of CNA1 clinical hours plus CNA2 clinical hours may be added together to meet the 48-hour minimum requirement. The documentation of CNA2 clinical hours must be on the training facility鈥檚 letterhead and signed by the RN Course Coordinator or RN instructor.
    • Note: If you did receive your CNA certificate from 51黑料网, you do not need to provide documentation of 48 clinical contact hours.

    • Nursing School Entrance Exam: Once you submit a Selective Health Sciences Application to the program and have been determined eligible by a Health Science Advisor, you will receive an email with information on how to schedule the Nursing School Entrance Exam.
  12. TEAS Nursing School Entrance Exam:

Once you submit a Selective Health Sciences Application to the program and have been determined eligible by a Health Science Advisor, you will receive an email with information on how to schedule the TEAS Nursing Entrance Exam. A composite score of 58.7% is required to be eligible for admissions. Up to two attempts are allowed per application cycle.

AAS Degree - ENC RIBN

ENC-RIBN (Eastern NC Accelerated Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses)

ENC RIBN program is a four-year nursing option in which students are dually enrolled in the 51黑料网 CC nursing program and East Carolina University. This program is designed for high school seniors.

The first three years after high school graduation are spent at 51黑料网 CC taking general education and nursing courses along with one online ECU course every fall and spring semester. Upon successful completion of the third year at 51黑料网 CC, students will graduate from the 51黑料网 CC Associate Degree Nursing program and be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam. In the student's fourth year, they will continue taking online ECU nursing courses. Upon successful completion of ECU course work, students will graduate from ECU with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Please note that students must apply to the ENC RIBN program through ECU first and designate the 51黑料网 CC nursing program as their school. Applicants will be notified of acceptance into the ENC RIBN program in the spring semester.

AAS Degree - ENC aRIBN

ENC-aRIBN (Eastern NC Accelerated Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses)

This program is designed for top academic students that have completed all of the first-year general education courses and pre-requisite courses for the RIBN program with a 鈥淐鈥 or higher. Applicants must seek admission to the 51黑料网 CC Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program first. Once notified of acceptance into the ADN program, students may apply to the ENC aRIBN program at ECU. Students accepted into the aRIBN program are dually enrolled with 51黑料网 CC and ECU. Following acceptance, students enter the 51黑料网 CC nursing program and concurrently take online courses at ECU. Upon graduation from the Associate Degree Nursing program at 51黑料网 CC, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam. After successful completion of the 51黑料网 CC ADN program and passing the NCLEX-RN exam, students will continue taking online nursing courses at ECU for the final year of the program. After their final year, students are anticipated to graduate from ECU with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Students are not eligible for aRIBN if they have been unsuccessful or dismissed from a traditional baccalaureate or associate degree program.

AGE Degree - General Education Nursing

The Associate in General Education (AGE) in Nursing is designed for students who wish to begin their study toward the Associate in Nursing degree and a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing as based on Blocks 1 through 3 of the Uniform Articulation Agreement between the University of North Carolina鈥檚 Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs and the North Carolina Community College Associate Degree Nursing Programs which was approved by the State Board of Community Colleges and the UNC Board of Governors in February 2015. The AGE-Nursing shall be granted for a planned program of study consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit (SHC) of courses.

A student who completes an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing with a GPA of at least 2.5 and a grade of C or better in the AGE Degree - General Education Nursing courses listed below and who holds a current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina will have fulfilled the UNC institutions lower-division general education requirements as well as nursing program entry requirements. However, because nursing program admissions are competitive, no student is guaranteed admission to the program of his or her choice.

The combination of CNA1 clinical hours plus CNA2 clinical hours may be added together to meet the 48-hour minimum requirement. The documentation of CNA2 clinical hours must be on the training facility鈥檚 letterhead and signed by the RN Course Coordinator or RN instructor.

Prior general education courses taken in college must be a grade of C or better. A student who earned a grade of less than a C in a general education course must retake the course and earn a minimum grade of a C.
  2. College Ready: College ready is demonstrated by the following:
    • High School GPA > 2.8, or
    • College coursework in English and math (ENG 111 or ENG 002 with a grade of P1 or equivalent; MAT 110 or MAT 003 grade of P1 or equivalent), or
    • Minimum Placement test scores (RISE test or equivalent)
      • English: Test out of TIER 1, and
      • Math: Test out of TIER 1

Performance Standards

Medical Assistant duties involve cognitive, sensory, affective, and psychomotor performance requirements. Therefore, the following activities are examples of the kinds of activities that a student in the Medical Assisting program would be required to perform in order to successfully complete the program. The examples used are not all inclusive.

Critical thinking: The medical assisting student must possess critical thinking skills sufficient for clinical judgment. For example, the student must be able to use critical thinking as a basis for identifying/resolving patient problems.

Interpersonal skills: The medical assisting student should possess interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with individuals, families, and groups from a variety of social, emotional, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds. For example, the student should be able to establish a helping relationship with patients, families, and colleagues.

Communication: The medical assisting student must possess communication skills sufficient for interaction with others in verbal and written format. Communication abilities including speech, hearing, reading, writing, language skills and computer literacy are required. For example, the student must be able to read and convey actions and patient responses to health care team members, both verbally and in writing.

Mobility: The medical assisting student should possess physical skills sufficient to move from room to room and maneuver in small spaces. For example, the student must be able to move in patient rooms, work spaces, and treatment areas.

Motor skills: The medical assisting student should possess gross and fine motor skills sufficient to provide safe and effective care. For example, the student must be able to use equipment, administer injections, insert catheters, and other assigned duties under the supervision of the physician.

Hearing: The medical assisting student should possess auditory skills sufficient to monitor and observe health needs. For example, the student must be able to hear monitor alarms, emergency signals, and cries for help.

Visual: The medical assisting student should possess visual skills sufficient for observation of patient health changes. For example, the student must be able to observe patient responses, see a change in skin color, and read a scale on a syringe.

Tactile: The medical assisting student should possess tactile skills sufficient to assist physician in a physical assessment. For example, the student must be able to palpate a pulse.

Weight-bearing: The medical assisting student should possess the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on a weekly or daily basis. For example, the student must be able to position and transfer patients.

Cognitive skills: The medical assisting student must possess the ability to organize responsibilities, make decisions, and make accurate mathematical calculations. For example, the student must be able to evaluate patient complaints.

Occupational exposure: The medical assisting student should possess the ability to protect self and others by implementing appropriate precautions due to possible exposure to communicable disease and/or body fluids, toxic substances, and medicinal preparations. For example, the student may encounter a patient with Hepatitis B or AIDS and must be able to use standard precautions. When a health problem occurs that results in multiple absences from class, lab, or clinical or injury impedes meeting the performance standards for a period of time, the medical assisting student is required to bring documentation from the physician or other healthcare provider noting the student can safely resume activities in the program. This documentation will be used to help determine if the student can return to class, lab, and/or clinical course requirements.

Communication: The medical assisting student must possess communication skills sufficient for interaction with others in verbal and written format. Communication abilities including speech, hearing, reading, writing, language skills and computer literacy are required. For example, the student must be able to read and convey actions and patient responses to health care team members, both verbally and in writing.

Mobility: The medical assisting student should possess physical skills sufficient to move from room to room and maneuver in small spaces. For example, the student must be able to move in patient rooms, work spaces, and treatment areas.

Motor skills: The medical assisting student should possess gross and fine motor skills sufficient to provide safe and effective care. For example, the student must be able to use equipment, administer injections, insert catheters, and other assigned duties under the supervision of the physician.

Hearing: The medical assisting student should possess auditory skills sufficient to monitor and observe health needs. For example, the student must be able to hear monitor alarms, emergency signals, and cries for help.

Visual: The medical assisting student should possess visual skills sufficient for observation of patient health changes. For example, the student must be able to observe patient responses, see a change in skin color, and read a scale on a syringe.

Tactile: The medical assisting student should possess tactile skills sufficient to assist physician in a physical assessment. For example, the student must be able to palpate a pulse.

Weight-bearing: The medical assisting student should possess the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on a weekly or daily basis. For example, the student must be able to position and transfer patients.

Cognitive skills: The medical assisting student must possess the ability to organize responsibilities, make decisions, and make accurate mathematical calculations. For example, the student must be able to evaluate patient complaints.

Occupational exposure: The medical assisting student should possess the ability to protect self and others by implementing appropriate precautions due to possible exposure to communicable disease and/or body fluids, toxic substances, and medicinal preparations. For example, the student may encounter a patient with Hepatitis B or AIDS and must be able to use standard precautions. When a health problem occurs that results in multiple absences from class, lab, or clinical or injury impedes meeting the performance standards for a period of time, the medical assisting student is required to bring documentation from the physician or other healthcare provider noting the student can safely resume activities in the program. This documentation will be used to help determine if the student can return to class, lab, and/or clinical course requirements.

Upon successful completion of the Medical Assisting program, the graduate is eligible to sit for national certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants to become a Certified Medical Assistant CMA (AAMA). Make a real difference in the lives of individuals, families, and communities. 51黑料网鈥檚 Social & Human Services (Human Services Technology) program prepares compassionate, service-minded students for entry-level roles across mental health, social services, rehabilitation, education, and community support settings.

Our program blends interdisciplinary coursework, hands-on clinical experience, and professional skill development so students learn how to support clients across the lifespan. As a generalist field, Human Services equips graduates to assist with client advocacy, crisis intervention, case management, community referrals, and quality-of-life improvement鈥攚orking collaboratively with other professionals in the helping professions.

Guided by the National Organization for Human Services (NOHS) ethical standards, our program emphasizes prevention, accessibility, accountability, and high-quality service delivery. Students learn to help clients navigate challenges while promoting wellness, empowerment, and long-term stability.

Graduates are encouraged to pursue Human Services Board Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP) credentialing and may also continue their education through transfer pathways to senior institutions.

Prerequisites

  1. Transcripts: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and provide an official transcript. Send official transcripts from high school, GED and all colleges attended to the college Registrar.

    Home-schooled students must submit a copy of the home school鈥檚 approved registration from the state in which they are registered.

  2. College Ready: College ready is demonstrated by the following:

    • High School GPA > 2.8, or
    • College coursework in English (ENG 111 or ENG 002 with a grade of P1 or equivalent), or
    • Minimum Placement test scores (RISE test or equivalent)
      • English: Test out of TIER 1
      • Math: Students should consider taking a math course if planning to transfer to a four-year college or university

Program Clinical Experience (Internships)

Clinical experience is a cornerstone of the Social & Human Services program. Students complete two supervised internship placements designed to translate classroom learning into professional practice.

What to Expect

  • 9鈥12 hours per week in a community agency for 16 weeks
  • Minimum of 144 hours (first placement) and 192 hours (second placement)
  • Supervision by both an on-site agency supervisor and qualified CCC faculty
  • Weekly activity logs, supervision meetings, and ongoing performance evaluations
  • Opportunities to explore career interests aligned with target populations (children, seniors, disability services, mental health, family support, treatment settings, etc.)

Placement Opportunities

Students gain experience in settings such as:

  • Mental health centers
  • Child and family service agencies
  • Substance use and recovery programs
  • Schools and youth programs
  • Rehabilitation and correctional facilities
  • Community outreach and support organizations

Students currently employed in a human services role may request to complete internship hours at their workplace, provided they are developing new skills, responsibilities, or knowledge aligned with program goals.

Program Overview

The Radiography curriculum prepares the graduate to be a radiographer, a skilled healthcare professional who uses radiation to produce images of the human body.

Course work includes clinical rotations to area healthcare facilities, radiographic exposure, image processing, radiographic procedures, physics, pathology, patient care and management, radiation protection, quality assurance, anatomy and physiology, and radiobiology.

Graduates of accredited programs are eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist鈥檚 national examination for certification and registration as medical radiographers. Graduates may be employed in hospitals, clinics, physician鈥檚 offices, medical laboratories, government agencies, and industry.

    • Biology 鈥搈ust complete one of the following:
      • One unit of high school general biology with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better, (if more than one term is represented, no grade below C will be accepted).
      • College-level general biology with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better (BIO 110 or BIO 111). Anatomy and Physiology does not meet this requirement.
    • Chemistry or Physics 鈥搈ust complete one of the following:
      • One unit of high school chemistry or physics with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better, (if more than one term is represented, no grade below C will be accepted).
      • College-level Chemistry and lab (CHM 131 or higher or Physics and lab (PHY 110 or higher) with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better.
  4. Radiography Math Admission Test: All applicants must take the Radiography Math admission test. The test must be taken within 12 months of the March 31 application deadline of the enrollment year.
  5. Resume/Work Experience Documentation: Submit a resume that details work experience, which includes the name of company/employer, length of time employed, state part-time or full-time employment, description of job duties and name and phone number of the contact person to verify employment.

The Associate of Applied Science in Radiography provides the knowledge, technical skills, and professional preparation needed to perform safe, high-quality diagnostic imaging in a variety of healthcare settings. Students learn to care for diverse patients while contributing to accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Computed Tomography

This course is designed to educate technologists in the post-primary practice of computed tomography. Core topics include but are limited to computed tomography procedures and equipment operation, patient care (education, preparation, orientation and positioning), patient history and assessment, contrast media usage, scout image, selectable scan parameters, and image processing and display. Students will perform computed tomography examinations and duties at various clinical sites under the supervision of computed tomography technologists. Upon completion, students may be eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Computed Tomography Certification Exam.

Program Overview

The Radiography curriculum prepares the graduate to be a radiographer, a skilled healthcare professional who uses radiation to produce images of the human body.

Course work includes clinical rotations to area healthcare facilities, radiographic exposure, image processing, radiographic procedures, physics, pathology, patient care and management, radiation protection, quality assurance, anatomy and physiology, and radiobiology.

Graduates of accredited programs are eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist鈥檚 national examination for certification and registration as medical radiographers. Graduates may be employed in hospitals, clinics, physician鈥檚 offices, medical laboratories, government agencies, and industry.

Minimum Admission Requirements

Prerequisites

  1. Transcripts: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and provide an official transcript. Send official transcripts from high school, GED and all colleges attended to the college Registrar. Home-schooled students must submit a copy of the home school鈥檚 approved registration from the state in which they are registered.
  2. College Ready: College ready is demonstrated by the following:
    • High School GPA > 2.8, or
    • College coursework in English and math (ENG 111 or ENG 002 with a grade of P1 or equivalent; MAT 143 or MAT 003 grade of P2 or equivalent), or
    • Minimum Placement test scores (RISE test or equivalent)
      • English: Test out of ENG 025
      • Math: Test out of MAT 035
  3. Algebra I & II, Biology, Chemistry or Physics: Courses that must be completed or must be in progress:
    • Algebra I and II 鈥搈ust complete one of the following:
      • High school Math 1, 2, & 3 with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better, (if more than one term is represented, no grade below C will be accepted).
      • MAT-171 with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better,
      • MAT-035 with a grade of 70 or higher,
      • RISE placement test place out of MAT 035.
    • Biology 鈥搈ust complete one of the following:
      • One unit of high school general biology with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better, (if more than one term is represented, no grade below C will be accepted).
      • College-level general biology with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better (BIO 110 or BIO 111). Anatomy and Physiology does not meet this requirement.
    • Chemistry or Physics 鈥搈ust complete one of the following:
      • One unit of high school chemistry or physics with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better, (if more than one term is represented, no grade below C will be accepted).
      • College-level Chemistry and lab (CHM 131 or higher or Physics and lab (PHY 110 or higher) with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better.
  4. Radiography Math Admission Test: All applicants must take the Radiography Math admission test. The test must be taken within 12 months of the March 31 application deadline of the enrollment year.
  5. Resume/Work Experience Documentation: Submit a resume that details work experience, which includes the name of company/employer, length of time employed, state part-time or full-time employment, description of job duties and name and phone number of the contact person to verify employment.

This 40-hour course requires 100% attendance and covers all essential Nurse Aide I skills, including personal care, communication, safety, patient support, and other competencies needed for success on the NNAAP skills test. Our EMS programs are designed to provide students with the foundation and skills to enter the Emergency Medical Services profession. Whether you鈥檙e interested in starting as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or looking to advance your career by earning your Paramedic certification, we have something for everyone.

In addition to our certification programs, you can also pursue an Associate in Applied Science Emergency Medical Science Degree through our EMS bridging program. We also offer specialty courses tailored to meet the needs of our community partners and surrounding EMS agencies. Minimum Admission Requirements

EMT Student Prerequisites

  1. Students must be 17 years of age on or before the official end date of the course.
  2. Possession of a high school diploma, high school equivalency, or successful completion of an exam assessing basic reading comprehension at a minimum at the eleventh-grade level.

Paramedic Student Prerequisites

  1. Students must be 17 years of age on or before the official end date of the course.
  2. High school diploma or high school equivalent.
  3. Possession of a valid and active North Carolina EMT Credential, NREMT, or other state鈥檚 EMS Credential prior to the start of the course.
  4. Successful completion of college-level English, or within the previous 12 months complete a written assessment placing the individual into college-level English.
    • Placement by RISE without the use of a written assessment will not meet this requirement.
  5. Successful completion of college-level Math, or within the previous 12 months complete a written assessment placing the student into college-level Math.
    • Placement by RISE without the use of a written assessment will not meet this requirement.
  6. Successful completion of a college-level Anatomy and Physiology course prior to the start of the field education component (field education begins summer semester).
    • Courses that are currently accepted include: BIO-168 and 169 Anatomy and Physiology I & II (must complete both sections with a C of higher within the previous 5 years). Equivalent CE courses will be accepted when the course meets all other requirements of these guidelines to include meeting SACSCOC standards for instructors of curriculum-level courses.
    • Accepted courses shall possess articulation agreements for curriculum credit.

*Special note related to A&P requirements: The North Carolina Office of EMS admissions requirements state EMS-3163, BIO 163, and BIO 165 and 166 are acceptable A&P courses; however, 51黑料网 only offers BIO 168 and BIO 169 which will award curriculum credit. BIO 165 and 166 may be accepted for transfer credit if they meet the five-year limitation requirement.

Step 1: EMT Certification

If you want to start a career in EMS, the first step is becoming an EMT. You can complete your EMT certification at 51黑料网 CC in two ways:

  • EMS 110: This is a credit-based course for students enrolled in a college program.
  • EMS 4200: This is a Workforce Continuing Education course, perfect for those who want a non-credit option.

The bridge program is available to paramedics who have an active state or national paramedic credential and meet minimum enrollment standards. The 100% onlineprogram provides the flexibility for paramedics to study around their work shifts and complete the program at their own pace. Individuals can join the program in any semester.

EMS professionals can use the EMS Bridge AAS Degree for university transfer, to meet the requirements for promotion or to gain additional knowledge. Most courses also qualify for continuing education credit.

AAS - Emergency Medical Science

Emergency Medical Science (EMS) degree students will learn the practice of emergency medicine and will complete more than 600 hours of clinical in area hospitals and EMS agencies. At the end of the program, students will be eligible to take state or national paramedic credentialing exams.

Pathway - Emergency Medical Science (CCP)

Career & College Promise (CCP) offers high school students the opportunity to take tuition-free college courses that count toward both high school and college graduation requirements. In about two years or less, students can complete college credits, certificates, or other credentials鈥攇iving them a valuable head start on their education and career goals. Our EMS programs are designed to provide students with the foundation and skills to enter the Emergency Medical Services profession. Whether you鈥檙e interested in starting as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or looking to advance your career by earning your Paramedic certification, we have something for everyone.

In addition to our certification programs, you can also pursue an Associate in Applied Science Emergency Medical Science Degree through our EMS bridging program. We also offer specialty courses tailored to meet the needs of our community partners and surrounding EMS agencies. Minimum Admission Requirements

EMT Student Prerequisites

  1. Students must be 17 years of age on or before the official end date of the course.
  2. Possession of a high school diploma, high school equivalency, or successful completion of an exam assessing basic reading comprehension at a minimum at the eleventh-grade level.

Paramedic Student Prerequisites

  1. Students must be 17 years of age on or before the official end date of the course.
  2. High school diploma or high school equivalent.
  3. Possession of a valid and active North Carolina EMT Credential, NREMT, or other state鈥檚 EMS Credential prior to the start of the course.
  4. Successful completion of college-level English, or within the previous 12 months complete a written assessment placing the individual into college-level English.
    • Placement by RISE without the use of a written assessment will not meet this requirement.
  5. Successful completion of college-level Math, or within the previous 12 months complete a written assessment placing the student into college-level Math.
    • Placement by RISE without the use of a written assessment will not meet this requirement.
  6. Successful completion of a college-level Anatomy and Physiology course prior to the start of the field education component (field education begins summer semester).
    • Courses that are currently accepted include: BIO-168 and 169 Anatomy and Physiology I & II (must complete both sections with a C of higher within the previous 5 years). Equivalent CE courses will be accepted when the course meets all other requirements of these guidelines to include meeting SACSCOC standards for instructors of curriculum-level courses.
    • Accepted courses shall possess articulation agreements for curriculum credit.

*Special note related to A&P requirements: The North Carolina Office of EMS admissions requirements state EMS-3163, BIO 163, and BIO 165 and 166 are acceptable A&P courses; however, 51黑料网 only offers BIO 168 and BIO 169 which will award curriculum credit. BIO 165 and 166 may be accepted for transfer credit if they meet the five-year limitation requirement.

The success of any results will be computed over the most recent reporting year (2017) based on the total number of (students) completing the program.
